They needed more lines when we had so few characters, and they didnt really have any loyality or in depth lore quests about the world or themselves. In most situations they are silent, when perhaps, in a game with few recurring characters, we need the one's we know to give the most exposition. The dialogue between the player and the few recurring characters we had was extremely sparse, I mean Fidel and Hexagon barely says anything after their recruitment. There was a lot of good writing, vivid descriptions and action. Story: The story was strongly on the good side of medium-to-good. If something was too delicious and you feel it didnt last long enough, yet you have no objective standard of saying I dont know how to fully rate this as I dont believe in the criticism in general that "this game was far too short". The general impression of the pacing is still stellar, the game is very satisfying to progress in up until when the main quest takes you to the Trail and the Dead city. This leaves them as tragic, meaning-deprived cannon fodder. The fact that the skinless men talk and "want" to be killed isnt explored. The areas lacked content in itself, quests, locations, exposition. These "locations" lacked true cities and this made it even more necessary to always find caravans to trade for more Rubels. I find myself agreeing to the criticism that both the Dead City and the Mountain Area close to the end of the game, were both underdeveloped areas. If it only came out in the years following fallout 2.! Clearly the game could have been a million dollar game if it had been more fleshed out with a bigger budget, it has the great makings of a worthy Fallout game, "ATOM RPG" masters the narrative of the wasteland with its bunkers, mutants, environmental dangers and all kinds of wacky and goofy mythology. Maybe that is the nature of really good games, that you crave more great content from them. The late game too short and the ending sort of a cliffhanger. Pacing: The early and mid game were both delicious. Here follows a review of ATOM RPG based on pacing, story and balance.
